The role of a business development manager is exactly what the title would suggest. The main objective is to boost the profitability of the company by increasing its customer base. This can be achieved through improved marketing strategies, new product lines and better business partnerships with suppliers and distributors. It is the goal of any company to bring in as many customers as possible and it is the job of the business development manager to not only find these new customers, but to work out ways to attract them to the company.
Development managers usually work as part of a team and in conjunction with other departments. As this is a management position they would usually report directly to a senior manager or director of the company. This is a tough job where performance is based entirely on results, but as it is at the cutting edge of each business it allows for creative thinking and a varied work environment.
