Clearing footpaths and bringing order back to the streets long after revellers have gone to bed - street sweepers are at the frontline of keeping towns, cities and villages clear of litter. The job can be done on foot, with sweepers working set beats in their assigned area, or operating special cleaning equipment.

Work is often shift based with irregular hours, early mornings and late nights all being the norm. Able to work solo or in teams, supervised or independently - sweepers need to be hardworking individuals with a positive attitude. Working as publicly as they do, sweepers will have the opportunity to socialise with the public on a daily basis.

Street sweepers will also have the chance to learn civil health and safety regulations and take new skills like machine operation, on board from time to time. Getting to work outdoors year round is another big part of the job - and would suit active individuals.
