Founded by Alex Saint, Tom Valentine and Troy Collins in 2010, Secret Escapes negotiates exclusive rates for luxury hand-picked hotels and hotels in the UK and abroad, and so saves you up to a staggering 70% off the price you’d pay by booking anywhere else. We all know that even the fanciest of hotels don’t like to have empty rooms. and this is exactly what Secret Escapes uses to its advantage.
The benefit for the user is that they don’t charge a penny to use this service. All you have to do is sign up with your e-mail address and in exchange for that, you get exclusive access to some irresistible deals. Sounds pretty darn sweet to us!
Conscious of quality, the company only features hotels and holidays that they definitely believe are a cut above the rest. Specially handpicked after being curated by their travel experts, the offerings range from the good old boutique country house hotels to exotic five-star spas. What’s interesting about them is that they only work with hotels that give them exclusive rates, so that means you can be sure that you’re not going to get these prices anywhere else. Also worth noting is that every week they run short ‘flash sales’ that lasts around ten days each, with as many as 140 sales going on at any given time. Their belief is that booking a holiday should be an enjoyable and stress-free experience for the user. And if you’re lucky enough, you might be treated to a complimentary room upgrade or massage!
It’s not just luxury hotels they specialise in, they also treat their staff to some luxury touches every now and then such as a fortnightly manicure and massage (how great is that, by the way?) or Friday evening drinks, where their co-founders sometimes play bartenders to their thirsty employees, which might we add, they say is always greatly appreciated!
Some of the other cool things they’ve done is get cartoonists to the office on National Employee Appreciation Day to draw everyone as superheroes because to these founders, the people that work for them are ALL heroes. A close-knit team, they have an open lunch in their kitchen with the co-founders every month, where the team is candidly praised for their hard work. Not just that, the office also boasts of a games room where you can play ping pong, arcade games or (my favourite) the play station.
What do their employees love about working at Secret Escapes? The freedom of ideas. They have idea jars around the office where people can put in their ideas for improving the business. Unsurprisingly, these jars are always full as the team is always brimming with new and innovative ideas. As a company, Secret Escapes welcomes innovation and people with a passion who strive to make turn that idea into a reality. Without a doubt then, their ideal candidate is someone who is a self-starter and can keep up with their pace. They look for people who understand that there isn’t a blueprint for success and are open to learn new things; and those who can demonstrate commitment and deep-rooted pragmatism. A workforce so diverse, they promise that a walk through their office will introduce you to concoction of cultures.
What are you waiting for? Go on and book that summer holiday! And if you’d like to be part of one of Britain’s best workplaces, they currently are hiring for positions such as content editors, lead designers, sales managers and more. You can find more listings here and here.
Once again, congratulations to the short-listed finalists and good luck!
The winner of the Best British Workplace award will be announced on June 6.
