Investor Insights: Part IV – Phil Chambers

As the week draws to a close, it’s time for our final Adzuna investor profile of the week, and so, without further ado, please welcome to the stage Mr Phil Chambers.

A co-founder of Peakon, a real-time dashboard to help people better manage companies and teams using a data-driven approach, Phil has hands-on experience of the startup world and offers fantastic insights for the next stage of the Adzuna journey. Prior to this, his experience spans Citrix, running the GoToMeeting business, serving as CTO at Podio, Qype and Gumtree.

We threw a few questions his way to gather his thoughts on Adzuna, all things tech and his potential future as an inventor.

 

What was it that first got you interested in Adzuna? 

I used to work with Andrew and Doug at Gumtree back in the “glory years” when doing things on the internet was a lot easier! However, they’ve both continued to be super-successful, and I loved the idea, so I wanted to support them on their Adzuna journey.

 Tell us what appeals most to you about the future of Adzuna.

If you look at the second wave of disruption in the tech scene, you can see the jobs market is undergoing that change, and Adzuna is spearheading it. I love the fact that Adzuna can provide data that the UK government doesn’t have, and was very pleased when I tried out ValueMyCV!

What do you love most about the London tech and startup scene?

I haven’t lived in the UK for 10 years now with five years in Hamburg and five in lovely Copenhagen, so what I love most is coming back to such a vibrant scene  really didn’t exist back in the Gumtree days.

If you could invent one thing yourself, what would it be

I recently made an automatic watering system for my houseplants out of an upside-down wine bottle. Does that count? (Love it. We’d buy one!)

Who would you say your tech or business hero is?

I’m a huge plane geek and learning to fly, so Elon Musk landing rockets vertically is a constant source of inspiration!
