What would the Bridgerton characters earn?

Since its release on Christmas Day 2020, Bridgerton has set hearts racing. The Netflix drama set in the competitive world of Regency London follows the love and scandals of the wealthy Bridgerton family and their eight children, all looking for love and marriage.

The successful series, already renewed for three series, has provided some much-needed escapism during the doom and gloom of the pandemic. 

Here we explore what the characters would earn in their jobs if they were living in the here and now. 

 

Benedict Bridgerton

Art Critic

Average salary: £42,077

Benedict is the second oldest Bridgerton child and sparks a friendship with Sir Henry Granville, a famous artist in London society. Their conversations start when Benedict critiques one of Sir Henry’s paintings and later joins some of the artist’s parties. 

Should Benedict become an art critic, the average salary is £42,077. If he were to pursue his love of the arts and become an artist himself he could expect to earn an average of £31,217, so perhaps he should stick to the role of critic.

Eloise Bridgerton

Eloise becomes obsessed with the true identity of Lady Whistledown and makes it her mission to discover her secrets. 

Her investigations are then picked up by Queen Charlotte, who employs Eloise to further investigate who the society gossip could be. 

The clever and intellectual Eloise could expect to earn an average salary of £41,500 as a private investigator according to our data. 

 


Lady Whistledown

Journalist

Average salary: £32,860

The object of Eloise’s investigations is Lady Whistledown, and we won’t reveal who she is in case you haven’t finished series one! 

The mysterious Lady Whistledown is a sharp-tongued gossip writer who publishes a regular newsletter that sends all of the characters into a frenzy and manipulates their actions. 

If Lady Whistledown were to use her skills as a Journalist she could expect to earn an average salary of £32,860.

Simon Arthur Henry Fitzranulph Basset, The Duke of Hastings

Estate Manager 

Average salary: £39,818

The mysterious duke returns to England to settle his estranged father’s affairs but soon finds himself managing the estate that he has now inherited. 

When he marries, he and his wife not only manage the estate but also the people within the ward of the house. 

Although we are sure landed gentry would have additional sources of income, an Estate Manager can expect to earn an average salary of £39,818.

Will Mondrich

Personal Trainer

Will and his wife, Alice, are close friends of the duke, and Will regularly trains Simon in boxing. He appears to own a boxing gym and even hosts competitive boxing matches. 

Today, Will would likely be Simon’s personal trainer and could expect to earn £28,224 on average. However, as a gym owner and competitive fighter that seems to draw a big crowd, he would likely be taking home a lot more.

Lord Featherington

Bookmaker

With a gambling addiction and rising debts, Lord Featherington would make an awful Bookmaker. Despite this, throughout the series, he tries to encourage others to gamble, in the hope he may eventually win and gets very involved in the organisation of one of Will’s boxing matches. 

If you’re better suited to a career as a Bookmaker than Lord Featherington and feel that a career that requires you to be good with people and numbers then you would expect to earn an average salary of £28,138. Sir George Crane

British Army

Sir George Crane is the beloved partner of the Featherington’s cousin, Marina Thompson. George and Marina had fallen in love prior to George joining the army and going to battle. 

Sadly, George is killed in action, leaving Marina devastated and pregnant with George’s child. 

Salaries in the British Army are advertised with an average salary of £27,383. It’s safe to assume Sir George would enter the army at a high rank, due to his societal status, so his salary would likely be much higher as an officer or perhaps even a Lieutenant or Colonel.

Siena Rosso

Singer

Another mistress of a Bridgerton son is Opera Singer Siena. She has an on-off relationship with Bridgerton’s eldest son Anthony. 

Popular performer Siena could expect a salary of £29,668 today. If she were to share and teach her talents she could expect a little more, with average salaries in the early-mid 30s for singing teachers.

Violet Bridgerton and Portia Featherington

Relationship Manager 

Average salary: £43,712

Rather like Mrs Bennett in Pride and Prejudice, the matriarchs of the Bridgerton and Featherington families are determined to find suitable matches for their children in order to ensure their continued social standing. 

Managing the debuts of their children, ensuring proper introductions, and managing the meetings and continued relationship building could stand them in good stead to be a Relationship Manager. 

A Relationship Manager is in effect a sales role that works to develop long-standing relationships, rather like the marriages on the show.
