We looked at the number of job ads proactively containing inclusive language welcoming jobseekers of all sexual orientations to apply across the UK&#8217;s cities, regions and sectors. Here&#8217;s what we found.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Belfast is the most inclusive city for LGBTQ+ jobseekers in the UK, beating London, Brighton and Manchester<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite a complex political and religious backdrop, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/belfast\">Belfast<\/a> tops the charts as the most inclusive hiring UK city, with 18.5% of job ads actively encouraging jobseekers of all sexual orientations to apply. Northern Ireland legalised same-sex marriage in January 2020 and the number of LGBTQ+ inclusive job ads has grown sharply over the last year to 540 from 193 a year ago, suggesting a positive push from local employers to improve inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/northern-ireland\">Northern Ireland<\/a> leads as the most inclusive region with 12.0% of job ads (685 roles) actively promoting LGBTQ+ diversity in the workplace, followed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/london\">London<\/a> (9.4%), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/scotland\">Scotland<\/a> (5.9%) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/south-east-england\">South East<\/a> (5.9%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other top LGBTQ+ inclusive hiring cities include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/portsmouth\">Portsmouth<\/a> (10.1%), London (9.4%) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/edinburgh\">Edinburgh<\/a> (9.3%), outpacing Newcastle (8.3%), Brighton (6.9%) and Manchester (6.3%) despite these cities all having vibrant LGBTQ+ communities and well-established Pride celebrations, suggesting local employers may be overlooking the importance of publicly encouraging diverse job applicants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15792 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pexels-nicholas-swatz-2769751-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, less than 6% of UK job ads in total actively promote inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community, significantly behind Germany, New Zealand, Australia and the US. A total of 56,261 UK job ads actively promote diversity in the workplace regardless of sexual orientation, up from 24,318 a year ago.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s important to note here that many UK employers are inclusive to LGBTQ+ workers but haven\u2019t updated their job advert language to reflect this. QA is the most LGBTQ+ friendly sector<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/scientific-qa-jobs\">Science &amp; QA<\/a> is the most LGBTQ+ inclusive UK industry with 12.6% of job ads actively promoting diversity in the workplace regardless of sexual orientation (1,567 job ads).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-15793\" src=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/pexels-polina-tankilevitch-3735709-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adzuna.co.uk\/jobs\/it-jobs\">IT<\/a> is second, with 10.7% of vacancies equalling 12,963 job ads actively promoting inclusivity. Many employers encourage applications from diverse candidates via a short written statement. Others may have diversity and inclusion statements published on their websites or career pages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Check their social media profiles <\/strong>&#8211; Check out a company&#8217;s LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and look to see if they&#8217;re talking about events like Pride on their social media channels.
