Born and raised in Braga, Portugal, Tiago Martins <\/a>is one of the Adzunians that had a taste of working onsite and also remotely. Tiago joined Adzuna\u2019s delivery team back in December 2019 as Marketing Analyst and relocated to London for a year via Adzuna\u2019s travel exchange programme. He now works fully remotely from Portugal. Most recently, he has been promoted to Campaign Manager.<\/p>\n

Q: Why did you choose to join Adzuna?<\/h3>\n

Tiago: At that time, I was craving a new challenge as I\u2019d been working in Portugal since I graduated from uni. My goals were to gain experience in my role, while meeting new people from various cultural backgrounds. After initial rounds of interviews, I saw Adzuna as an exciting opportunity. I was particularly impressed by the company\u2019s commitment to innovation, after learning that the tech team has been developing various AI-powered tools by themselves (and that was before this year\u2019s ChatGPT buzz!). The company values resonated with me, and the culture was perfect because the teams are all very international and diverse, which was exactly what I was looking for.<\/p>\n

Q: How does the delivery team collaborate with other teams?<\/h3>\n

T: Since the delivery team is responsible for delivering the clients budgets and ensuring that we provide the best quality possible, we are actively communicating with the sales and account managers, and the partnership teams. This communication is key to make sure we meet clients\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n

Q: How would you describe the delivery team culture?<\/h3>\n

T: The team culture is really supportive. We always help each other by sharing tips and offering support whenever it is necessary. It\u2019s also a really fun team to work with as everyone is super friendly and works really well together.<\/p>\n

Q: What’s your favourite Adzuna memory?<\/h3>\n

T: I started at Adzuna in December 2019, just in time for Winter week (an Adzuna tradition celebrating months of hard work). I was very nervous before coming to the office because it was my first few weeks at Adzuna, and I also just moved from Braga to London for the role. I was anxious that I wouldn\u2019t fit in in the country and also the job. Well, I was definitely wrong.<\/p>\n

Winter week was the time when I got to know my teammates in-person. It was comforting knowing that everyone was super nice and friendly. In fact, one of them later became my housemate during my time in London. Back to the Winter week, it was packed with events and they were fun. There were parties, Secret Santa, and breakfast buffets. It has become my best memory because that really helped me when I joined and made everything a lot easier.<\/p>\n

Q: What\u2019s the biggest difference between working in the London office and now remotely?<\/h3>\n

T: The biggest difference is productivity. When I first started working remotely, I felt a bit lost as I needed to train my brain that home is not only a place to unwind but also a workspace. I am grateful that the company offers an office supply budget every year to support remote workers. Once I define my daily routine and get used to working remotely, it\u2019s very easy to enter the deep workflow state.<\/p>\n

Q: What\u2019s your favourite part about working remotely?<\/h3>\n

T: My favourite part is definitely not having to commute to work. With that extra time, I can work on my hobbies like playing football with my friends or getting better at riding my motorcycle. It certainly helps me maintain a better work-life balance. Sometimes after work, I will just go for a ride for pleasure. I am also more productive at home as I find it easier to focus, to get into that zone when I\u2019m in a space where I feel most comfortable.<\/p>\n

Q: What challenges did you encounter working remotely, and how did you deal with them?<\/h3>\n

T: When I first started working remotely, I found it difficult to unplug after work. To overcome this, the first thing I do in the morning is to create a list. I write down goals that I want to achieve for that day and add the work tasks I need to complete. After that, I reorganise and sort the list by priority and allocate small breaks after every time-consuming task or a series of small tasks.<\/p>\n

Another challenge I encountered briefly was that I did crave for social interaction, especially when I was the new joiner and didn\u2019t know anyone yet. Luckily, my teammates are all so easygoing and friendly. They are honestly amazing people. It didn\u2019t take long for us to get to know each other. They are always worried that I would feel alone because I am living outside the UK, and they\u2019ve made extra efforts to schedule virtual coffee chats with me just to catch up. I really appreciate that. On top of this, the social committee regularly organises super fun hybrid social events like wine tasting, pancake competition, fantasy football etc. (there are so many events!), and they never forget to include remote workers.<\/p>\n
