Funny workplace rules<\/h3>\n

While office rules at Adzuna HQ are fairly straightforward (put the dishwasher on when it\u2019s full, turn all the lights off if you\u2019re the last to leave etc. etc.) it turns out some workplaces are forced to be a little bit more creative when it comes to setting out clearly what is and isn\u2019t allowed. The following ridiculous workplace rules are all real.

No animals in the baling machine<\/strong> – <\/em>Bales of hay should be made out of, well, hay. Maybe other things as well (I’m no farmer) but they definitely,\u00a0definitely<\/em>, shouldn’t contain bits of chicken, cow or pig.\u00a0Life on the farm can be\u00a0difficult enough for animals – this rule just made things a little bit safer.<\/p>\n

\"Don't Don’t put any body part in the fryers<\/strong> –\u00a0<\/em>You know there\u2019s never a good enough reason to put any part of your body into a deep fat fryer, I know there\u2019s never a good enough reason to put any part of your body into a deep fat fryer, but someone out there does not know there\u2019s never a good enough reason to put any part of your body into a deep fat fryer. This rule is for them.

No taking pictures of the money and putting it on Instagram<\/strong> –\u00a0<\/em>I\u2019ve never worked in a bank, but I imagine there are lots of rules about the megatons of cash on the premises \u2013 not stealing it, not swimming in it like Scrooge McDuck, not using it as loo roll\u2026 Turns out banks aren\u2019t too keen on you taking pictures of their money and posting it to\u00a0Instagram either #rollinginit #whatabouttumblr?<\/p>\n

No mopping in the walk-in freezer<\/em><\/strong> – True story: I once had a boss that actually said \u2018those were the days\u2019 (with no hint of sarcasm) while reminiscing about all the mopping he\u2019d done in his life. My boss obviously didn\u2019t used to enjoy mopping enough to take over from me, but at least he didn\u2019t try to entomb me in a walk-in freezer.

\nNo using toasters<\/strong> –\u00a0<\/em>Medical workers are expected to use incredibly high-tech equipment to diagnose and treat patients. Worryingly it turns out one of them can\u2019t work a toaster, as a kitchen fire led to one hospital banning them from being used.

\nDo not lick the reptiles<\/em><\/strong> – Is it more alarming that one pet shop explicitly told its employees they were not to lick the reptiles, or that the other animals apparently aren\u2019t off limits?<\/p>\n

No wearing of cardboard robot heads\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>–\u00a0On one level, this rule makes complete sense: you can\u2019t get much work done wearing a cardboard robot head. On another level, surely such a rule is just encouragement to make a more convincing robot head out of metal?

\nThe foot measuring device is for measuring feet… and nothing else<\/em><\/strong> –\u00a0I can only assume employees at shoe shops want to find out if your forearm really is as long as your foot.
