The main priority for cabin crew is to ensure the safety of travelling passengers. Also incredibly important is providing excellent customer service to all passengers throughout the flight, to ensure a pleasant and enjoyable experience and increase the chance of repeat business.

They are required to show dedication and professionalism at all times, as the face of the airlines brand. Duties include serving food and drink, selling gifts, and relaying instructions from the pilots.

The jet-set lifestyle may seem attractive but it requires hard work, lots of training, gruelling shift patterns, and – obviously – lots of travel.

Structured training programme for new recruits are held by all airlines and typically last between four to seven weeks. The primary focus of the training is passenger safety, including the aircraft’s safety equipment and emergency procedures, security and first aid.

The work can be demanding as cabin crew have to deal with, and often work through, tiredness and jet lag if crossing over different time zones.

While there aren’t any essential educational qualifications, there are a number of requirements you need to meet

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Height 5’2″ (157.5 cm) to 6’3″ (190cm), and with weight and height in proportion
  • Fit and healthy (you’ll need to pass a medical assessment)
  • Able to tread water for at least a minute, and swim 25m without assistance
  • Hold a passport that allows you to travel freely without restriction
