Reviews:

“Take advantage of the discounts”

Really decent employee discounts. You get 10% off almost everything in Argos and up to 20% off in other places like Homebase. If you're looking to get a job at your local Argos, i'd recommend applying around Christmas time as this is when they need the most staff (good to get your foot in the door around xmas).

Some quite long hours particularly at busy times of the year. We were sometimes asked to stay late (unpaid i might add) at very short notice. That was frustrating.

The Christmas madness

“Fun place that keeps you fit”

Running up and down the stairs keeps you very fit

The store rooms were freezing

“Busy working environment with lots of flexible working contracts”

The flexible working hours mean that you can easily get part-time work and then you can increase your hours after if you want as well. I enjoy it because I like being busy, and it's more varied than I expected. The team I work with is friendly.

I don't like working overtime for no extra pay, but this is only when it gets really busy, and you get that most places nowadays. I feel the stock team are not promoted as much as they should be. The return policy makes some customers difficult to handle.

Loads of jobs generally going around the peak Christmas period!

“nice place to work just a shame about the pay”

the best thing about working at Argos is definitely working with the other friendly staff, it becomes almost like a little family!

The worst thing about working at Argos is the unpaid overtime at very short notice. Also the manager that was there was horrible one of the kind of managers that thought he was better than anyone else. he always managed to ruin everyone's good mood! ( I know this wont be the same for every store)

“The experience of so many different things you learn about.”

I love my job, been there 4 years. The staff are all lovely, it's like a family place where we all get on so well. Keeps you fit running around picking, up and down the stairs.

The rudeness of some of the customers, where they cannot talk to you, they would rathe talk on mobile phones when you are trying to serve them, or they just throw there selection slips on the counter in front of you, rather than handing them to you.

“I worked there for eight years or more,we had agreat team and a great laugh. But pressured daily to reach targets for Argos cards and breakdown plans.”

If you have a great team it makes ALL the difference. Can meet some great customers with great stories.

Team leaders and managers put too much pressure on you to get argos cards and breakdown cover.Told letting everyone down, even when you do well told to push even harder!! So u can't win.ok if you work in the stock room though no pressure there! Also your are " over ruled" by panicky managers or leaders if a customer asks to speak to them, even though you have given the correct information in the first place. Then the customer gives you ?" That look" haha afterwards.Soooooo frustrating !!! Hours are all over the place!!! Can be favourites who get all the overtime and sociable hours,( no weekends, lates etc) or always refuse ... Can be favourites who get all the overtime and sociable hours,( no weekends, lates etc) or always refuse overtime but then moan and get more hours when it suits them.Dont expect to finish on time!! This happens rarely.Customers complain about the queue but Argos are more interested in using the money to improve profits than employing more staff or giving contracts with more hours!!! And they keep on and on about customer service!!! What a joke!! more

Being expected to work past your shift for no extra pay!!! Thought I would be selling items,NOT having to push customers to buy breakdown cover and get argos cards, you even have to argue back with them to any objections they have, and are told of ways of answering!!Too expensive,no you have to argue the benefits.Argos are focusing on these more and more, that's where the real money is to be made!!

“Greedy company, only cares about targets”

Worked there for 3 years, can't think of any

Company only cares about reaching targets. Puts staff under lots of pressure, makes it a miserable working environment. If have one bad day of not getting enough targets you have let the whole store down and your pretty much the worst in the world. Wouldn't recommend this job to anyone and I resent working for this company anymore.

It's greedy,greedy,greedy end off

“Horrible place to work”

Horrible people to work with Get flung into the deep end without knowing what to do Really badly managed Not good hours A lot of stress to take on 15 minute break when you have been in for 6 hours Please anyone who is very sensitive don't go for this job.

“Careless people”

My worst experience with Argos I had today . Never experienced such a bad customer service like in this store ( Argos London Colney shopping centre) I had to deal with the store manager Alex. I wanted a refund for an item bought just a day before. I brought back in perfect condition with original packaging and receipt. He refused to refund me and he was very rude with me . In the end went to another store near by and sorted it straight away. Shame to this store manager ( Alex) who wasted me time.
