Long queues at lunchtime, irritated customers, crying babies.... you can be the saviour of all of these in a role as a bank cashier.
You will be the person responsible for dealing with customers, counting the money and helping with enquires. You get a good chance to get to know your regular customers and the constant counting of notes helps keep you on your toes. The hours are very fixed (usually you are only there for a short amount of time either side of bank opening hours) and it can also open up opportunities to move into the account management side of banking if that is what you wish to aim for.
Progression as a cashier amounts to working your way up to certain levels until you become a chief cashier though as mentioned before or after this level you may wish to look for other opportunities within banking.
The role is part administration, part customer liaison and part accountant. You will have to like people as you will be dealing with them all day and also enjoy being part of your team.
You'll have to display certain characteristics such as patience, honesty, numeracy, accuracy and efficiency. You will also need to be discreet and confidential as you will be dealing with customers accounts.
