Dereham is a typical town in Norfolk, made up of a mixture of modern homes and historic buildings. The town has a train station however the only train that runs through this is a tourist train.
It is thought Dereham was established as a religious community by the daughter of a Saxon king, who was later canonised. She was allegedly buried under St Withburga's well in the grounds of the church.
Dereham is a large market town, just of the A47 and is the birth place of science fiction writer Brian Aldiss. As well as its historic buildings Dereham has a variety of shops, cafes and tea-rooms and also a golf course, swimming pool and bowls green.
