The Yorkshire market town now called Doncaster was known as Danum to the Romans, who built a fort there on the River Don. Today, the town is home to around 70,000 people. Situated on the East Coast Mainline, Doncaster has excellent rail links to both north and south. Robin Hood International Airport is on the doorstep and the A1 (M), M18, M1 and M62 are all within easy reach.
The town offers a choice of cinemas, several shopping centres and an open-air market, which has been trading since the year 1248 AD. Famous for its nightlife, Doncaster boasts a wide assortment of pubs, bars and clubs.
Local attractions include the Minster, Conisbrough Castle, the Civic Theatre, the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum, Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum and Doncaster racecourse, home of the renowned St Leger, the oldest classic horse race in the world.
