Waiters are restaurant staff who are on the front line of customer service. You work with customers by taking orders, serving food and preparing tables. You make customers feel welcome so they enjoy their meal. As a waiter, there is often a routine with lots of pressure and thinking-on-your-feet. Double-bookings, food not coming out of the kitchen on time and 'hard' customers are all part of the job. Waiting is physically demanding and you'll need to be good with numbers, have a constant smile on your face and have excellent manners. High-end food establishments may require silver service skills (serving at the table from silver platters and you might be required to wear a uniform).
Superb customer skills and an interest in food and drink are a must. It's a given to say that you should have high standards of personal hygiene and can remain calm under pressure.
