Arguably the most famous "new town" in the UK, Milton Keynes became a town on the 23rd January 1967 with the aim of becoming a city one day. The town is often abbreviated to "MK" (like the football team, the MK Dons). The population of Milton Keynes is just over 180,000 and there are a large number of new development plans afoot. In fact, the government aims to double to population of the city by 2026 by attracting jobs, industry and technology to the borough.
Milton Keynes has a number of performing arts venues including the 65,000 seater "National Bowl" and the 1,400 seater Milton Keynes Theatre. Stay tuned, this is a town on the up!
