Advertising can be described as a means of communication for marketing used to encourage or persuade an audience to continue or newly purchase a product, service, take part in an activity or any other action (most commonly consumer behaviour). Arguably, Mad Men has made advertising cool again; after all, who doesn't want to be Don Draper?
The industry of advertising offers several job roles including account executives, sales, account planners, art directors and copywriters.
Depending on an individual's role within the advertising umbrella, he/she may be responsible for the communication between clients and the advertising agency (account executive), researching key data and writing the formal creative brief (account planner), producing the visual, creative, innovative (and often digital) ideas for advertising campaigns in all media outlets (art director) or providing the verbal or written 'copy' for an advertising campaign (copywriter).
