A CMO, or Chief Marketing Officer, will be responsible for managing the overall vision of a company's marketing strategy. They will typically work in a managerial role, and should be comfortable delegating tasks to other specialists on their team. As the Chief Officer, they will normally confer with other Chief Officers in order to shape and understand the general strategy of their employer, providing their own insight, before working to promote new initiatives, as well as the company's general marketplace presence. They may also be charged with more advanced responsibilities, such as managing marketing budgets and commissioning market analysis.
A CMO will generally work regular office hours, however as a result of the high stakes of their position they may be called on to work extra hours. Their salary will tend to reflect this, as CMOs are typically qualified individuals who have proven themselves to be capable in previous work.
CMOs tend to hold a great deal of responsibility. In addition to managing the general marketing strategies of their company, they will also be charged with hiring and firing employees. In many cases CMOs are also responsible for reporting back to other Chief Officers, and a company's board of directors if one has been assembled.
