The epitome of Home County living, many see Buckinghamshire as the place the be. Not only does it have the highest GDP per capita of any region outside of Inner London, but it is also home to the highest life expectancy, best education results, and highest quality of life in the country. A large portion of the inhabitants of the southern part of the county make up a prosperous segment of the London commuter belt.
As well as a high standard of living, Buckinghamshire inhabitants are also used to being surrounded by natural beauty. The Chiltern Hills roll through the south, as the River Thames winds its way lazily through the county, accompanied by the popular Ridgeway path that does the same at higher altitudes.
Despite its history of wealth, aristocracy, and landed estates (the Rothschild family are still a big presence), Buckinghamshire is not entirely stuck in its ways. The relatively new, post-war city of Milton Keynes, now Buckinghamshire's biggest, looks to style itself as a new home of shopping and entertainment in the centre of England; and completed only in October 2010 Aylesbury's Waterside Theatre has become a venue of huge, ambitious productions ever since.
