I worked as an Avon rep. I've been working for over a year and really enjoy the work. But it took time to build up my base of customers. Competition is a big factor. If no-one else does Avon in your area, you'll no doubt get a great reaction. After the last Avon rep gave up in my area, it's just been getting better for me. I cover quite a large area, I'd say I used to deliver to around 150 houses, but I've cut it down now as I've come to know the ones who don't return the brochures or who tell me they are not interested.
You pay an administration fee (I think it's about £50 but you pay half from your first order and the rest from your second). You have to pay for your brochures too - 50 brochures costs just over £8. To earn any money, you need to have orders over £78 for the lower discount (about 20%) and £148 to get a discount of 25%.
I like the independence of not having a boss because I determine myself how many hours I work and when I do them, but the salary is based on commissions so the more I do the more I earn and that motivates me. There are training sessions and meetings quite regularly so you keep in touch with the company, but online training is offered too. The products are good and the company has such confidence in them that it offers a 3 month money-back guarantee. I've found this a great selling point with new customers.
Commission work can mean a lot of hard graft and then instead of earning the commission you have to put up with rejection and negativity instead.
Ultimate flexible working as you can choose your hours to fit round your life!
Good work life balance, with all the usual comforts such as a very flexible schdule, the ability to work from home, and a lot of work that involves you being out of the office and meeting people. The benefits and pay is alright. And working with other representatives is a lot of fun, as they are generally a very nice and lively bunch.
Management does not know what they are upto. Outsourcing practices hurting communication between departments even more. There is no single person able to liason between the companies various departments. This causes a lot of confusion, and you'll leave pretty fast. The work can get annoying because of these issues.
Fair pay shouldn't be a benefit!
