One of the best places i have ever worked (and some of the smartest people).
Quarrels at the top and quite a few layers of management.
Lack of parking spaces
Incredibly smart, engaging colleagues; great clients; very interesting, varied and fast paced work
Long hours and working out how to balance delivering full-time client work with making an impactful contribution to Firm activities
The enthusiasm and sheer ability of everyone there
I liked the sense of team spirit and being part of a big corporation meant that you felt well looked-after. There was good training and some nice perks.
You felt like a tiny cog in a big wheel and so you didn't really matter to the company in the grand scheme of things
Nothing particularly unusual at Deloitte - it's just a big mainstream company!
The opportunities to learn about a company across such a breadth of areas is what makes working here invaluable. There are lots of chances to progress within the company. There is very much the feeling that if you put in hard work it will be recognised and you will move up. The skills you learn here are easily transferable to other businesses, hence why many partners often get hired elsewhere to become CFOs of other comapnies.
Expect to put in long hours, but not necessarily all the time. It is the irregularity of these hours which can be challenging. Sometimes you will have a quiet day and others you will be expected to stay past 10pm. There is a level of uncertainty here. The appraisal process can be rigid and the structure of this doesn't always reflect your personal level of effort and hard work.
Bonuses are a rare thing and consequently there is a high turnover amongst staff who feel they aren't necessarily rewarded for their hardwork.
Work-life balance, brand, generally people are very nice
Mediocrity of people, repetitive / boring work, lack of career development, hierarchical structure, poor management
It doesn’t have a toxic reputation considering its role in the lead up to the financial crisis and its focus on helping people to avoid tax
Staff benefits are great The full range of grades in each team really works in terms of each team having an equal profile and status and the top people get to know the newcomers to the workforce properly Great opportunities in a variety of roles in all the different areas of the business.
So much is expected and the pressure to meet exacting standards day in day out mounts over time. You can often end up having to work longer and longer hours to make sure all the work hits the mark.
Social aspect is good with company organised events.
