The office hours are great, nothing to complain about in that aspect. Staff have a lot of free stuff and perks such as getting to test out the latest in innovation etc. The prospect of long term employment at this organization is very good, however it will most likely mean staying in the same position.
The salary is not as much as one would like. Also, it does seem that experience and job knowledge doesn't really count for salary increases. Sometimes the favourites get higher increases (word gets around). Very demotivating. Very difficult to grow in such an environment.
Some of the UK's most intelligent people work here. Makes every day an adventure and learning experience.
Solid organisation with job security – nobody gets the sack here! Pension scheme Flexible hours are helpful The job itself has a value in furthering research into an important area so you feel like you are part of something worthwhile Exciting to be at the forefront in a new field of scientific enquiry
Salary is not good and there are no opportunities to make it better. Everyone would like to feel rewarded for doing a good job, but there is no room for that in the pay structure. In fact management are not interested in performance at all, good or bad. The only criterion for getting any benefit is length of service, so that means you can be really bad and get a good position just because you can't get a job elsewhere.
