“Steady job”

Good workmates, plenty of regular, steady work. Pay and hours are OK and you get a chance to share your technical know-how and expertise with customers, which can be very rewarding.

Senior management becomes invisible at the first sign of a problem.

You meet loads of DIY enthusiasts and learn a lot.

“An unsung gem”

I loved my time with HSS Hure, the hospital staff are excellent, very intelligent, great to work with and extremely supportive and friendly even thought they maintain high pressure jobs. An exciting environment, you have a lot of opporunity for growth and learning here. The nature of the work also makes you a better person overall, not just professionally.

The environment can start to get to you, or one of the employees, and things can get a little sticky.

Great people even though theyre working in a fast paced and stressful environment.

“High Pressure, Over worked, Low Pay”

Meeting new people

HSS is by far one of the worst companies I have worked for………. The majority of shops are run by 2 people. If one person isn’t in then you are covering the shop on your own, you rarely get lunch breaks and get frowned upon if you ask for one. There is no overtime so any extra work you do is gone un-noticed. It’s a modern day pyramid where the hard workers at the bottom get rewarded with £10 vouchers and small competitions but the managers higher get the bonuses and pay rise. Everyone gets praise for your daily hard work. Between a shop of 2 (depending on location) you can expect to answer over 300+ phone calls yet get questioned when you miss a call.. even if you’re on your own/serving a customer face to face. There’s no excuse to miss a call! You get asked to do so much more than the job description. As a sales consultant, I didn’t expect to be cleaning equipment, testing it, carrying it, sorting out stock queries and much more. You spend your weekends as a cleaner rushing around after customers, stock shelves and hovering/mopping the dusty place because no one shows an interest in how it looks or how dusty and unsafe the environment is. If you ask for spare uniform, you usually receive it 3 months later as everyone cares about themselves. HSS claim that Health and Safety is their main priority but more than half the branches should be shut down. People choose to follow rules when it suits them.. No H-VIS, Bump Caps, Driving a forklift with no license. I’ve seen people with no driving license bringing HSS 7.5tonne vehicles into the loading bays!!!!! I eventually got the point I used to dread work… I was under so much stress and pressure that I would take caffeine pills to help. I was constantly rushing around, on the phone, or replying to an email that I had to write down a list of things to do everyday. There was never a quiet day or a day off. The best part is.. everything I mentioned ab more

If you calculate it, you can earn more by doing less at the majority of retail shops/supermarkets. Now you say HSS might offer you a career plan but here is the truth. The majority of people earn there way into a certain position based on WHO they know or through LUCK. If a local branch opens next to where you live then BAM you’re a branch manager. (Even if you’ve been with the company for a couple months). If you’ve got a good relationship out of work with a director then I wouldn’t be surprised if you get a promotion in the next few months either

“Save yourself from this sinking ship!!”

Genuinely nothing.

Left on your own in store all day. No support from management at all! "Training" is basically cheap e-learning courses on pc. Half of the products are in terrible condition. The customer reviews say it all! Thankfully I've managed to escape before I found myself in any bad situations. Accept if you want,, you'll be sorry!

A hire company that doesn't have anything in stock to hire??!!

“Worst place ever”

The initial job role itself

The manager of damages and director of the head office Worst company to work for ever. Unfairly sacked for trying to report the manager in charge of me as she’s loud, bullying, abrupt and intimidating!! Managers there seem to gloat about suspension and refer to them as holidays. Directors are unprofessional and very clicky with staff members I.e managers. No support from HR. Team members as I’ve tried to reach out to them twice to see if I can start my probationary on a new desk. sexual comments all day while being the only girl working on the desk to where you need to laugh it off as what else can I do, as the day I speak up I ... All of a sudden and I’m no longer good at my advisor role LOL!! Worst worst worst company ever. Avoid HEAD OFFICE. Directors put words in your mouth and accusations and it’s funny how they say these wrongful things when they have only just learnt your name. Absolute sham of a company. Everyone seems to move off damages desk for the same reason, the manager is a joke and gets away with it. Friends in high places looking after her unsure why as spends her day online shopping and managing a mail box more
