It's a big company, but it's a good one, if you put in the effort they look after you very well. Also, there are opportunities to travel widely since they have offices all over.
I didn't have any bad experiences, but I had colleagues who found it really hard to get contracts signed by senior managers and had their shifts changed at short notice. It is not always well organised!
Worldwide opportunities, so many different areas of the business to move internally A wide variety of different kinds of projects, and there's lots to learn if you are prepared to drive it and motivate yourself
Closed ranks at senior management actively discourage creativity and forward thinking and prefer to keep talent down. At best generally unsupportive Not agile operation, decisions take an age and implementation even longer! Lack of co-ordination and organisation throughout, perfect environment to foster silos Most of the staff seem to come from the same cultural work backgrounds.
Hiring someone who isn't a civil servant or ex-army/navy/airforce!
I really struggle to find any positive to say about Serco, ER........ ok well i have worked there for 20 years and without any doubt 19 of those 20 years I really liked my job, felt part of a team and valued as a person and was always encouraged to expand the business
No longer feeling valued as a employee, Upper management doing little or nothing about the very low moral across the whole yard
EASY this one. the fact that all full time (contracted) staffs hours are capped at 40 P/W. Unless your employed through the Agency and then it seems that 50 or even 60 hours P/W is totally exceptable meaning that more than a handful of Agency staff get paid more than FULL TIME staff. How can that be right or fare for that matter?
Management don't always turn up for meetings. Unreliable
They are very protective to the staff, Health & Safety is important to them for Staff and our customers. Lots of training courses and money spent on sending us on courses. Great when it comes to kitting us out with our vans. Someones always a phone call away for support.
The Pay, the pay-rise could be better. pass on the profit to us good staff.
They make you feel part of the team, you get involved. Unusual yes. never had this anywhere i have worked before!
NOTHING AT ALL
THE MANGERS TELLING THE TRUTH
very little to say on this point, except for meeting some of the finest people i have ever met.
if your face fitted, you got promoted, regardless of your ability or work ethic. if it did not fit, you could have reinvented the wheel or the internet and it would not matter. this company was a throwback to the 19th century old boys network. they treated the ordinary workers and lower management staff worse than cattle in a slaughterhouse. the ability to brown nose was the most valued attribute for senior management, with one or two exceptions, and this culture seemed prevalent with the company.
there complete inability to reward excellence and ability
There was nothing good. Best day was leaving. They can't stand it if you cough in the office and send you home!!
nothing good about working at serco. They want perfection for little pay
Nothing good. Best thing was leaving.
not working for them!
So professional they don't even contact you after interview with any feedback by email or a phone call after many attempts finally gave up!!!
Knowing it will end soon.
Where to start? Use and abuse until they find a cheaper option overseas. Next stop child and/or slave labour.
Can't believe they win contracts. Tell client one thing then make a complete balls up of simplest task.
Wow! This is hard to fill in! The best thing - when I left the Barclays Cycle Hire!

People wanting to work there in the first place.
Some of the fellow staff where nice and taught me what to do as the manager had not shown me what to do.
Where I worked they seemed very non-organised, I was told it was a temporary Summer position which was fine as I was starting college education after summer, but they must have forgotten as they did not like it when I mentioned that I could not return as my course was full time.
Meeting my boyfriend and leaving
The managers, the pay, the shift work, the disrespect, how power gets to people's head, the fact that the office had no windows made it feel more prison-like
That the managers do absolutely nothing
Both managers in the department that I worked in were not People managers' Advisors. Wo needed assistance were told to seek this from another member of staff as they were too busy. Also the advisors who shouted the loudest and created animosity were the ones who got away with bad conduct where, others would be disciplined. It was a case of if your face fits or a friend of management you could do what you like and get away with it.
I found it unusual that there was a high staff turnover in our office and this was never questioned or addressed by Serco.
