Cuts throughout the organisation is generally a real downer. There is no longer such a good feeling in the organisation as the cuts bite and the organisation is being whittled down to 4/5ths of its size. Obviously there are fewer opportunities to progress, and there is even concern about job security. The future strategy is not clear and the whole working environment of the organisation is changing – hard to assimilate the changes.
New roles and new opportunities are very rare these days!
Mostly Mon-Fri and rarely compulsory overtime
They have given up investing in the essential grades, instead choosing to 'dispose of' departments to private contractors, who in the long term cost the government exorbitant fees and give no job security to staff who are forced to become contract staff.
The whole of the UK think we are overpaid and get a cushy pension, neither of which are true!
Great company ethic, and good attitude among the employees. The training provided is amazing, and there are a lot of opportunities to learn on the job as well. The people are all highly qualified and very intelligent. The ministry is surprsingly low on bureaucracy. Great managerial team as well.
A lot of stress and uncertainty at work due to the ministry being downsized. Employee morale is dropping due to constantly increasing uncertainty about the organisation, its policies, and news the next day will bring.
A public sector department that is lacking bureaucracy!
