Special Constable Recruitment 2019-2020
Merseyside Police currently have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Special Constable. Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers who come from all walks of life. They work alongside our regular officers and PCSOs in all aspects of Policing. This includes; Local Policing, Emergency Response, Investigations and Specialist departments such as Roads Policing and Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Special Constables play a vital role in supporting the work of the Police and the community and truly make a difference to the lives of those they support.
The experience gained as a Special Constable is invaluable and many of our Specials go on to lead long, fulfilling careers as a Regular Police Officers or continue to balance being a Special alongside their current career, committing to the minimum of 16 hours voluntary per month.
It's easy to apply to become a Special Constable. We understand your time is important to you, so we've amended our process to be as efficient and quick as possible so all steps up until the assessment centre are online and easy to complete at your convenience. These include; an online Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIR) and, if successful, a Pre-recorded Video Interview to complete any time within 14 days of receiving your interview preparation information via email. If successful here, you will be invited to an on-site assessment day where all necessary tests are completed in the same day and you have the opportunity to meet our team and ask any questions you might have about the role of a Special Constable.

Please note that the Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIR) is included as part of this application process and will need to be completed in one sitting. The test consists of four separately timed sub-tests each designed to measure a different ability. These are:-
1) Verbal Usage - The ability to spell words and construct sentences correctly (12 minutes).
2) Checking Information - The ability to check information quickly and correctly (8 minutes).
3) Numerical Reasoning - The ability to solve numerical problems accurately (12 minutes).
4) Verbal Logical Reasoning - The ability to reason logically when given facts about events (25 minutes).
