The Project Delivery Manager will be responsible for the delivery of technical projects concerning the core business application. These will vary in size from large strategic projects which fundamentally change the application infrastructure or architecture, to smaller implementation projects which add particular functionality at the request of the Product Owner.

As a senior delivery position reporting into the Global Head of Software Delivery, the role also includes an element of programme management and line management of project managers. This role is also responsible for the underlying project delivery approach.

Although not primarily a technical role, given the highly technical nature of the environment a significant element of enterprise architecture and delivery knowledge is required to allow timely delivery of application solutions.

  • Coordinate and drive multiple projects and dependencies, deliver at a programme level where required and maintain programme and project governance guidelines
  • Create and maintain the project charter and business benefit profiles, in conjunction with the business change owners
  • Define and agree criteria for project success, including the identification of measurable business benefits
  • Create and maintain the project plan, risk, action, issue and decision log
  • Proactively identify risks, issues and blockers and put in place strategies or solutions to resolve or escalate them when outside of the control of the project team
  • Create and maintain viable technical solution designs in combination with the delivery teams
  • Identify key stakeholder groups and undertake stakeholder analysis to assess the impact of change on each group, produce relevant communications and implementation plans
  • Set the pace of the project activities and actively drive them through to completion, create solutions to problems as required to allow delivery to progress
  • Actively manage the project to ensure it is delivered in a timely manner, with visible timelines and costs
  • Provide weekly report updates on the project, highlighting any risks, issues or decisions for escalation
  • Direct and support the work of business analysts to ensure project priorities and deadlines are met
  • Mentor and support the project managers
  • Work with technical colleagues from IT, Development and ISR to ensure the project plan contains an adequate level of detail and that key technical activities are identified and planned for at the earliest opportunity
  • Coordinate the project activities of external suppliers and ensure they adhere to the agreed project timescales and quality
  • Own the closure of the project, including identifying and sharing lessons learned and ensuring mechanisms are in place to track and monitor business benefit realisation

  • Project management and solution delivery experience within a bespoke software delivery environment, recognised project management methodology qualification such as Prince 2 Practitioner or Agile PM Practitioner
  • Experience of successfully delivering complex software delivery and integration projects using waterfall and agile project management methodologies, with the ability to tailor and blend the approaches as appropriate
  • Strong leadership skills with experience of delivering projects in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Varied sector background such as financial services, retail and communications
  • Highly organised with excellent time management skills and the ability to matrix manage resource from various teams
  • Highly effective written and verbal communicator, with the ability to present information clearly, concisely and well structured, specifically tailored to key stakeholders
  • Approachable, reasonable, pragmatic and supportive with a ‘can do’ attitude to solving complex problems
  • An understanding of business change management principles and experience of using these to ensure successful project implementation
  • Proactively identifies process improvement opportunities and supports continuous improvement initiatives
  • Self motivated, highly professional and results oriented
