Hillcrest Shifnal School is an Ofsted ‘Good’ registered independent education campus offering a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to boy and girls aged 7-19 years who have Social, Emotional and Mental health difficulties. Job Summary and Duties

Working as Head of Faculty and as a Secondary Maths Teacher this role has the responsibility for a small team of staff supporting pupils at KS3/KS4/KS5. You will lead the teaching and coordinate person centred programmes of study for both individual pupils and groups of young people with complex behavioural needs. This role would suit an experienced and qualified teacher with excellent leadership skills and a vision to inspire and motivate our students to achieve positive outcomes.

This role is offered on a permanent basis commencing September 2019, working term time plus 5 non-pupil days (40 hours a week plus after school meetings)

Following a through induction, the main duties of this role will include:

  • Managing the Secondary and Sixth Form Mathematics curriculum and pastoral responsibility, in line with the school development plan that supports teaching and learning
  • Supervising a team, leading on staff development and training
  • Monitoring the progress and targets across the faculty to ensure that each individual student is able to achieve planned outcomes
  • Working as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team which encompasses education, residential care and the clinical team.

Preparing, planning, assessing and/or teaching sessions as part of each young person’s education programme, keeping up to date with curriculum changes

Key Skills Required
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in a Mathematics related subject
  • Experience of working with children and young people with Social, Emotional & Mental Health difficulties and/or challenging behaviour preferred although not essential
  • Knowledge of the National curriculum and other programmes related to Secondary Phase education
  • Experience of leading, motivating and managing staff
  • Keen to remain hands on in the classroom whilst also supporting Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and other leaders to secure high standards in all aspects of the life of the school
