Hillcrest Shifnal School is an Ofsted ‘Good’ registered independent education campus offering a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to boy and girls aged 5-19 years who have Social, Emotional and Mental health difficulties. Job Summary and Duties

As a Lead Access and Transition Teacher you will be responsible for Key Stage 1- 5, using person centred programmes for individual students and small groups of pupils throughout KS1 –KS5 with complex behavioural needs; many with EHCP’s. Adept at teaching a wide range of subjects including Maths and English, you will additionally manage the new pupil inductions and transitions, along with those requiring specialist needs.

As an experienced teacher, with leadership ability, our ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, committed and flexible and have a love of teaching students within an SEN environment. We would consider qualified teachers with either Secondary or Primary bias.

As a SEN Department Lead, this role is offered on a term time only basis on a Fixed Term Contract (September 2019 – December 2020), working 40 hours per week plus after school meetings.

Following a thorough induction and training programme, your duties would include:

  • Developing the induction and initial assessment process and curriculum in consultation with the Deputy Head Teacher; designing and managing individualised programmes supporting educational transition within the school and upon leaving the school
  • Managing and conducting interventions including Precision Teaching, ARROW, Catch Up Literacy and Catch Up Numeracy; leading and managing behaviour based interventions.
  • Teaching a range of subjects to include Literacy and Numeracy for students with low attainment
  • Preparing, planning and assessing teaching sessions whilst maintaining an awareness of curriculum developments
  • Writing and implementing individual education plans, making assessments of educational attainment, setting challenging yet achievable targets
  • Building relationships with all young people, which will encourage their interest and participation in their education
Key Skills Required
  • Hold a nationally recognised degree and relevant qualified teaching status (QTS) ideally in a Lead position
  • Knowledge of the national curriculum and other programmes related to SEN Education
  • Desire to working with a challenging client group and empower them to succeed
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to build ongoing positive relationships with the students
