Based in the heart of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, we are dedicated to preserving traditional boatbuilding skills by introducing new generations to the art. We train students to the highest standards of craftsmanship, delivering traditional skills in wooden boatbuilding through the internationally recognised qualification IBTCP Practical Boatbuilding Diploma, in addition to the City & Guilds 2463-03 Marine Construction. Our alumni progress on to work in boatyards worldwide, involved with modern and traditional boat building and preservation.
We are looking for applicants with shipwright experience or from the field of higher or further education who have strong carpentry and construction skills and a knowledge of boats, to join our expanding team. You will be involved in leading students and volunteers in the restoration of many important historic vessels as well as in the construction of replica vessels. A strong motivation to pass on your skills and the ability to inspire others through effective communication are vital. Previous teaching experience advantageous but not essential.
Main duties include:
• Delivering high quality shipwright training to Learners;
• Assessing and recording Learner progress against training targets, creating tailored Learning Plans;
• Managing the deployment of Learners to maximise learning opportunity and productivity.
