Are you a passionate, experienced Senior Ecologist looking for a new challenge outside of the city?

We have an amazing opportunity for a Senior Ecologist to join our fast-growing boutique consultancy based in beautiful Canterbury. As a Senior Ecologist, you'll lead a variety of Ecological survey and assessment projects, giving you ownership and autonomy over all stages of the project process, from tender to completion.

This role will interest you if you are:

What you'll have ownership over:

• Preparing, managing and undertaking ecological surveys for all species and project types, including out-of-hours survey work
• Completing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments for all project types, embedding the mitigation hierarchy into every appraisal and assessment and delivering ecological net gain wherever possible
• Liaising confidently with clients, planners, local authorities and sub-contractors to achieve excellent outcomes for their projects and for the natural environment that we are striving to protect and enhance
• Working in collaboration with the wider Ecology, Landscape, Arboriculture and Technical teams to deliver reports and plans that convey important ecological information in a clear and concise manner
• Leading on, or make significant contributions to, protected species mitigation licensing, EIA projects and/or Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA)
• Producing fee proposals and undertaking initial report reviews

Skills and Experience:

• A BSc in ecology or a closely-related subject (an MSc would be beneficial)
• Be an Associate or Full CIEEM member, operating at the Capable level in at least seven relevant CIEEM Competencies (four Technical and three Transferable) and working towards Accomplished level in these seven Competencies
• Be effective and confident when advising clients on the matters covered by these Competencies
• A comprehensive understanding of the planning process, relevant legislation and the construction industry, and the consultant's role within the planning and development sectors
• Have secured (as named ecologist) and/or written protected species mitigation licences
• Have written and lead on formal Ecology Chapters, complex EcIA reports, PEA reports and/or HRAs
• Be capable of completing initial report reviews
• Be capable, after sufficient formal training provided by the client's Health and Safety training provider, to sign off low-level Health and Safety risk activities
• A sound understanding of the commercial aspects of our work, and the need to work productively and efficiently
• A UK driving licence, with use of own vehicle. Vehicle will be used to travel to and from sites

Key soft skills:

• The ability to maintain focus, motivation and a robust sense of humour
• A proven track record of working as part of a busy team and managing team logistics
• The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

Additional desirable skills:

• Registered Consultant for BLICL or GCN LICL
• A valid CSCS card and/or PTS Rail Card
• GIS skills
• Practical habitat creation skills and experience
• Marketing and tendering experience
