Hours: Between 10 – 40 hours per week - Waking night shifts
Rates of Pay: £15.00 per hour (weekends and bank holidays optional)

About the Job
Your role will be to provide care for a child with complex medical and special educational needs to a high standard. You will be expected to undertake the tasks listed below, plus others that may be required, which will be discussed during the handover at the beginning of each shift. Experience in a healthcare role is desirable along with a healthcare qualification. Training will be provided where necessary.
Responsible to: Directly to the employer
-Maintaining a clean and safe environment for your client: a child under 16 with complex medical and special educational needs.
-Changing bedding as required, eg. when soiled or wet.
-Ensuring comfort of your client at all times, eg. Correct temperature, all clothing, bedding and heating is comfortable.
-Toilet needs and ileostomy care as required.
-Personal hygiene requirements, eg. use of appropriate incontinence products & sanitary protection, dental hygiene.
-Competent tracheostomy care, assessment, emergency procedures, use of suction machines and maintaining viable airway.
-Operation of enteral feeding pump, including ensuring correct function, correct feed and 'rate and dose' settings are set accordingly.
-Understand function of gastrostomy feed tube/mic button and be trained and competent in emergency replacement of feed tube/mic button.
-Undertake stoma care and application of sterile dressings.
-Attend to ileostomy pouch by observing at regular intervals and emptying and changing as necessary (following training)
-Assess situations where there's a real need to call parents for advice and assistance.
-Be familiar with some basic Makaton sign language.
-Observe and respond to your clients attempts to communicate through sound, gesturing and facial expressions.
-Be punctual, reliable and flexible

-Establish a professional standard of care, which should be maintained at all times.
-Be prepared to undertake any training that may be required to meet the needs of the role.
-Ensure that due consideration is given to health and safety at all times.

-Have excellent spoken communication and observational skills
-Experience in a healthcare role is desirable along with a healthcare qualification.
