FTTP Installation Engineers required immediately – Based in the Exeter area with travel

Calling all Telecoms or TV Installation Engineers seeking a new challenge!

Persimmon Plc is excited to be recruiting a new 2-person mobile installation team to work within the Group’s internet services division. This delivers ultrafast, full FTTP (fibre-to-the-home) internet access to new-build housing developments across the UK.

The team will primarily be responsible for carrying out fibre installations into new homes and businesses across the South West of England in order to support our rapid network expansion plans. It’s essential that you are based within 15 miles of Exeter due to current and future sites.

Who are we?

Persimmon is a FTSE 100 listed company which builds more than 16,500 beautifully designed new homes a year and across 380 prime locations nationwide. With an annual turnover of over £3bn, Persimmon is one of the UK’s leading house-builders committed to the highest standards of design, construction and service. We believe that our demanding quality standards and focus on innovation differentiate us from the competition, and it is this on which our reputation is built.

The main responsibility of the FTTP Installation Engineer will be to work effectively in a 2-person ‘gang’ to connect new customer premises into our fibre network. This includes the installation and repair of fibre-optic CPE (customer premises equipment) in both residential and commercial buildings as well as the installation and maintenance of FibreNest’s under and over-ground fibre distribution network. Other duties will include:

  • Installing sub and micro-ducts into existing underground duct systems.
  • Carrying out blown fibre installations to individual buildings and apartment blocks.
  • Installation of fibre-nodes, cables and optical splitters within a PON architecture.
  • Splicing, terminating and testing internal and external optical cables in-line with our rigorous quality standards.
  • Upgrading and maintaining our national network of roadside distribution cabinets.
  • Performing routine and ad-hoc quality assessments on both your own and our subcontractors’’ work.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and swiftly repair fibre faults within the network to ensure minimum disruption to service.
  • Responding to and resolving in-home customer faults and service outages.
  • Assisting other installation teams across the UK where necessary to support customer needs or project timescales.
  • Delivering an exceptional, unmatched level of customer service at all times to both our new and existing customers.

A good understanding or keen interest in UK telecoms networks and technologies is required as is a basic knowledge of electrical safety. We are ideally looking for candidates with 1st hand exposure of installing telecommunications infrastructure at roadside, underground and at customer premises level – with fibre-optic experience being particularly advantageous.

The role will involve liaison with site management teams and our new home purchasers so strong communication skills and a genuine passion for delivering a friendly, 1st class customer experience is paramount.

Although previous experience is preferred we will be happy to consider applicants with experience in similar sectors i.e. Satellite/Cable TV Installers and Electricians where we will provide a comprehensive programme of training and support. Such candidates MUST be able to demonstrate and evidence their positive approach to customer service and must be entirely reliable, dependable and willing to learn new skills.

All candidates must be prepared and willing to undertake daily travel to sites across the South West of England and occasionally further afield when required. In addition, some overnight stays away from home during the week will be required from time to time and as project timescales and service standards dictate.

What’s in it for you?

A competitive salary, bonus and benefits package including pension, life insurance and private healthcare; as well as an honest, driven approach which offers the chance to work with some great people in a new and expanding business!

The 2-person gang will be provided with a brand new company van including all tooling, so a full valid driving license is required.
