Woods nuclear business supports customers in the energy generation, new build, decommissioning and defence sectors.

The Nuclear business provides engineering, consultancy, safety case support and project management to our customers' operations within the nuclear sector as well as into non-nuclear sectors where our capabilities are transferrable. As demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for a Civil & Structural Engineer.
The successful candidate will be responsible for either directly undertaking, or supervising design and engineering substantiation of Civil & Structural Engineering tasks including; studies, optioneering, schematic and detailed design, detailing and specification of new conventional and nuclear safety related works. Experience of directly interfacing with Clients, and Contractors is desirable. Experience of leading teams of engineers and technicians, executing the function of Lead Engineer on projects in the UK, in compliance with the CDM Regulations, is required.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting our customers, and in developing and expanding the technical capability and credibility of the Warrington office. The successful candidate shall have excellent technical skills and shall ideally have Subject Matter Experience (SME) in either the execution of concrete structures, steel structures, seismic analysis/design, or nuclear engineering. Previous experience in the nuclear engineering sector and/ or working on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects is advantageous. The candidate may be required to work out of clients' offices or remotely for extended periods of time.
A wide ranging and in-depth technical knowledge and educational base are required to ensure the delivery of challenging project and Customer targets.
+ Undertake all work in accordance with Wood quality assurance system, with due regard to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE)
+ To work collaboratively and in a collegiate atmosphere with other Woods teams and engage with specialists in the wider Wood
+ Undertake the role of Civil/Structural Engineer on projects, leading teams (with support from Principal Engineers) in the preparation of basis of design, design calculations, engineering substantiation reports, engineering details/drawings, risk assessments, method statements, specifications and similar project documentation, and undertaking on site inspections
+ Generally work under the direction of the Principal Engineers, and Operations Manager, but as required occasionally may assume the role of Lead Engineer on projects, or for specific work packages/areas
+ Where undertaking the role of Lead Engineer, the candidate shall be responsible for taking ownership of the delivery and line management of the engaged Civils resource(s), including quality and technical assurance, within budgetary and programme constraints, reporting to the Operations Manager and Project Management functional lead
+ Undertake role of Originator, and/or Checker, of technical documentation and project deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications and drawings
+ Undertake the role of Technical Author in the preparation of technical documents to support License Condition, Periodic Safety Review and Safety Case/Pre-Construction Safety Report documentation
+ The role shall require a degree of flexibility and ability to travel both in the UK and overseas, to allow visits to Customer offices, site and potentially overseas as required
+ An accredited degree with Honours in Civil or Structural Engineering. Appropriate Masters (MSc) degree, or an accredited Integrated Masters (MEng) degree, or Engineering Doctorate (EngD/PhD), accredited by UKSPEC (engc.org.uk/ceng), would be an advantage
+ Shall work towards, or hold professional status of either the ICE and/or IStructE, either to IEng or CEng registration, as appropriate to the educational base, OR;
+ In lieu of professional qualifications, demonstrable and substantial experience may be considered where professional status could be obtained through, for example, the Technical Report Route
+ Demonstratable post-graduate experience in the field of civil and/or structural engineering design
+ Experience in UK, European, international standards for the civil engineering area, and a strong understanding of overall regulation such as Construction Design and Management (CDM)
+ Experience in performing seismic analysis/design to relevant Eurocode and American design codes is desirable
+ Demonstrable experience of nuclear engineering in nuclear new build, plant operations or decommissioning, OR strong experience in design management and coordination on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects is desirable
+ Experience in supervising, coordinating and managing project teams and experience in Lead Engineer roles
+ A full, clean UK driver's license would be advantageous
+ Ability to gain, and acknowledgment to submit to UK security clearance(s), as required to support project roles
