Consultant Paediatrician with an Interest in Neonatology
Applications are invited for a Consultant Paediatrician based at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, commencing as soon as possible as a substantive appointment.
The children’s service is based on Riverbank Children’s Unit and includes a Children’s Assessment Unit, inpatients, ambulatory care, Neonatal Unit, children’s ED as part of the general Emergency Department and dedicated Children’s Outpatient department on site. There are also close working links with a number of Tertiary Centre’s including Addenbrookes Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
This is a new post and it would support a 1:10 consultant’s rota, with the new consultant having an interest in Neonatology. The division has 8 consultants who provide consultant delivered services with extended consultant presence, to meet trainee supervision and to meet an increased general and specialist paediatric inpatient and out-patient service. There are plans to expand the consultant team to 10 and there is further substantive post advertised.
The successful applicant will join our paediatric team of consultants, made up of six acute general paediatricians and two designated neonatal medicine consultants. This post would include participating in a 1:10 Paediatric consultant rota, neonatal on calls and cover for the children’s assessment unit. You would also be doing general Paediatric clinics and infant follow up clinics.
The trust provides a full range of general, specialty, acute, local neonatal (Level 1- 3000 deliveries/annum) and supports the community Paediatric services, currently provided by South Essex Partnership University Foundation Trust, to the 127,000 children normally resident in north and mid Bedfordshire and who receive health care services from Bedford NHS Trust. The candidate would be expected to support established sub-specialty interests and to complement the existing expertise in addition to general Paediatrics Services.
