Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in the nuclear industry to join our Decommissioning business. This role will be based in our Birchwood office in the North West of the UK but there will be a need for periodic visits to client sites, as projects require.
The Decommissioning business provides a mixture of high added value consultancy, engineering and project management support, and delivery of EPC projects, to major clients in the UK and Overseas across both the civil nuclear and defence industries, including Dounreay, Sellafield Limited, Urenco and Magnox. We are proud to have supported these clients for many years, and our partnering arrangements will enable us to sustain and enhance this support in the long-term. We also deliver a number of projects for other private companies and academia needing decommissioning solutions.
The successful candidate will support the engineering manager with the management, direction and coordination of the Project Engineering work and interrelation with Project discipline teams. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is also responsible for implementing Engineering Procedures and maintaining the required standards of technical quality in the project work.
Your responsibilities will be supporting various and diverse nuclear clients providing Front End Engineering Design through to full life cycle project requirements including:
+ Waste retrieval and treatment
+ Decommissioning projects
+ POCO and care and maintenance projects
+ Technical assessment
+ Key discipline contributor in Feasibility and Optioneering Studies.

Essential Skills and Experience
+ Self-starter with a professional approach and a technical background and industry experience
+ Wood are looking for a Senior / Lead Mechanical Engineer who has proven of experience within a nuclear or highly regulated environment.
+ Motivated individual with the ability to work to deadlines and communicate project progress
+ Good communication skills and ability to articulate information
+ Ability to interface and liaise with key client and internal stakeholders
+ Ensuring the requirements of the Health & Safety of Work act, CDM, Machineries Directive, and the COSHH regulations are understood and complied with
+ Committed to Continuous Professional Development
+ Wood are looking for candidates who are willing to travel to customer sites.
+ The candidates must be able to display a broad mechanical understanding in order to be able to undertake different projects in varied locations.
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following skills and experience would be advantageous:
+ Degree qualified or equivalent (eg HNC/HND with significant experience) in engineering discipline with extensive design experience
+ Chartered Mechanical Engineer or similar demonstrable experience
+ Familiarity of Nuclear sector would be advantageous
+ British National with eligibility to obtain and maintain full UK security clearance (SC)
