Associate Procurement Manager - UK/Ireland

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, UK & Ireland

Based in our offices in Maidenhead with flexible working options.

The primary function of Purchasing is to economically and efficiently purchase services and goods in alignment with AbbVie policies and objectives, while adhering to a strict standard of business ethics and integrity. Responsible for managing suppliers effectively and providing high levels of customer satisfaction. The Associate Purchasing Manager works closely with affiliate management and employees, regional Category Managers and PMO at the direction of the Site Purchasing Manager. This position negotiates, develops and implements agreements that maximize value and support client initiatives, standardizes materials, services and suppliers.

Highlighted key responsibilities:

  • Implement strategy: RFP / RFI / RFQ / Pricing Auction. Responsible for running local tenders, aligned with direction from Purchasing Manager and respective Category Manager. Finalize all sourcing events documents and reports according to the Purchasing guidelines.
  • Negotiating and managing relevant Supplier agreements with support from Legal Team.
  • Develop and maintain a supply base that ensures the best value for quality, delivery, pricing, service, etc. Includes over-sight of all new vendor requests, in alignment with preferred supplier networks and relevant category strategy
  • Support and implement preferred supplier network for certain spend categories and help drive spend to these suppliers
  • Seek, develop, and maintain business relationships with suppliers and clients. Support monthly/regular reporting and updates.
  • Identify, develop, and implement improved and standardized buying practices to ensure adequacy of needs. Educate requestors on the same Tracking and reporting key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.


Qualifications/Knowledge and experience:

  • CPM certification or equivalent experience desired
  • Previous procurement experience required
  • Knowledge of purchasing systems, i.e. SAP (SRM & ECC), Ariba, and e-sourcing tools preferred
  • Knowledge of key indirect categories (M&E, Marketing, Consulting & Professional Services, HR, IT/Telecom, Market Research)
  • Individual must be self-motivated with great follow-up skills and be able to work independently
  • Enhanced soft skills and a change mindset.
