Ardingly College is seeking to appoint a Head Steward to manage and coordinate a busy team in the successful delivery of their duties around this vast and beautiful campus.
The post holder will manage a team of four Stewards ensuring the smooth running of the department and in meeting the needs of the College. The role entails a variety of different tasks, some of which are completed on a daily basis and other larger tasks at set times through the year. No one day is ever the same, from coordinating post and laundry deliveries to event set up, moving and assembling furniture or driving minibuses and marshalling car parking.
This role is an exciting opportunity and would suit someone looking to progress from a supervisory role into a managerial position.
Previous experience completing these types of duties is desirable, although not essential as full training will be provided. Candidates should have excellent customer service and organisational skills and be able to manage a small team effectively. The ability to forge effective relationships with all members of staff and visitors to the College is key. The post holder should also be IT literate and able to prioritise and delegate effectively.
A full, clean driving licence is essential, with two years driving experience. Category D1 or PCV, and experience of driving a variety of vehicles would be advantageous. Candidates should have good communication skills and be physically fit and able to lift furniture and other heavy objects and be able to work outside in all weathers. Knowledge of Health & Safety at work and Safe Handling would be desirable.

The hours for this role are 42.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7, 8 ½ hour shifts between the hours of 5.30am and 7.30pm. The normal working week consists of Monday to Friday with occasional Saturday duties. On occasion, there may be a need to cover the security lock up of the campus, which would require working from 2.00pm until 11.00pm, and the Monday morning Clapham bus route which would require starting work at 4.30am.
