This post is open to existing PGR students at the University of Leeds only

The University of Leeds (UoL) alumni database contains over 245,000 ‘active records’ of Leeds graduates (alumni) and other supporters of the university. Each constituent record contains data ranging from basic contact details, through to business details, career history, interests, donations of money, time & expertise; and scale of interaction with the university since graduation. Database querying allows for the segmenting of easily identified groups, for example, School of Mechanical Engineering graduates of 1992, or all graduates who live in the Yorkshire area, or all donors who have given (£) to the University in the academic year 18/19.

However as alumni are now playing a greater role in supporting the Universitys worldwide ambitions and objectives, the Alumni & Development Office (AD&O) need to develop identification and segmentation capabilities, producing more sophisticated and complex alumni groupings, for example:

• Which UoL graduates are influential or high profile in the areas of our research priorities?
• Which UoL graduates are social-media influencers?
• Leeds City Council and the UoL are collaborating on the bid to bring Channel 4's HQ to Leeds, Which UoL graduates are considered influential or high profile in the world of media?

When servicing such requests we are currently restricted to existing information within the database. Can, and should, we also look to on-line information on, for example, news and company websites, social & careers networking services and in many other area in order to fulfil these more sophisticated segmentation requirements?

We are looking to work with a skilled individual on a short-term project, to help us use business intelligence & software functionality to capture, draw out and use more efficiency, information on who are alumni are, what they do and how they can support the UoL.

Research to-date informs us that no UK HE institution has undertaken such a specific project, so to fulfil the aims and objectives of this project would be considered a first amongst our peers.
