Consultant in Rheumatology
Applications are invited for this new post of Consultant in Rheumatology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust in Truro. Applicants wishing to work full time or part time would be welcomed. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of three existing rheumatology consultants, a Specialist registrar, GPST (ST1), four rheumatology nurse specialists, clinical pharmacist, specialist physiotherapists and occupational therapists, DEXA radiographer, research nurses and administrative and secretarial staff in providing a comprehensive rheumatology service. This newly created post provides an ideal opportunity to join a specialist service in this rapidly developing department.
The rheumatology hub is based at Truro Health Park, a modern dedicated rheumatology outpatient facility. The department holds a regular weekly multidisciplinary team meeting. Medical day case facilities are provided at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and two of our community hospitals. The rheumatology service supports our clinical colleagues by providing specialist opinions for patients admitted to the Royal Cornwall hospital. A comprehensive community rheumatology service provides peripheral outpatient clinics throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The post holder will help develop these services with the support of our primary care colleagues.
There are excellent opportunities for professional development and the post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical interests, with particular opportunities in research and medical education. The department is fully committed to teaching and training of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Candidates with a sub-specialty rheumatology interest that enhances the clinical services of the department would be encouraged. The department is active in research and has developed links with the local CLRN and the University of Exeter.
This is an exciting time to join the Royal Cornwall hospital, as the department is rapidly expanding to provide comprehensive county wide rheumatology services and in the process of developing specialist rheumatology clinics as well as supporting an active education and research programme. We are looking for a dynamic team member to help us in delivering a high quality service. The rheumatology department is part of the Specialist Services and Surgery Care Group.
