Job Purpose:

Primary purpose of the role is to ensure GSK is at the forefront of current industry standards in Global Learning Management Systems (GLMS) and other strategic learning technology solutions by researching, evaluating and selecting tools and services in support of the TL&OD ambition:

The Learning Technology team is part of the TL&OD Operations function, is global and works across GSK business units to drive and influence the implementation of enterprise wide Learning Technology solutions, standardised approaches and improvements from both a business and an employee experience perspective.

The Learning Technology Specialist will have a key focus and role to play as the’ Taxonomy and Content Librarian’ for GSK’s Global Learning Management System (GLMS) ensuring that all GSK proprietary content, c200k items, are organised in a logical structure, tagged appropriately for searching across multiple systems.

The Taxonomy specialist will ensure that governance, standards, models, education and consulting to support business design is being followed and delivered. That metrics are in place to monitor and measure the variety of enterprise wide content in the Global Learning Management System to bring more consistency, quality and efficiency across the organisation whilst improving the learner experience.

Working in a matrixed environment with business aligned team of Learning Business Partners, Learning Experience Designers and business content creation stakeholders, the Specialist will create an environment where the teams understand best practise and follow the governance processes in the use of taxonomies and content structures.

Communities that actively manage their content will have processes in place to :

  • Regularly update or renew content
  • Review and recommend content to its members
  • Make it easy to find and access
  • Ensure content serves the needs of the community’s business priorities and that of its members

Our projects run using Agile Methodology and the specialist will have experience of operating in this way and be able to use a variety of collaboration tools.

The Learning Technology Specialist will participate in and contribute to the overall team success by demonstrating our values of Courage, Accountability, Teamwork and Development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide key role is the support and execution of the governance for the taxonomy of the Global Learning Management System (GLMS - SAP SuccessFactors - myLearning) that effectively delivers on GSK’s content management requirements, complies with the GSK Content Operating Model and overall ambition for a great learning experience at GSK.
  • Successfully implement, embed and sustain the Taxonomy and ensure that all GSK learning assets are appropriately organised, tagged and are easily surfaced through a variety of enterprise wide supported platforms.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of all published standards, policies, SOPs, models, guidelines and training documentation.
  • Contribute to the Learning Training Administrator and Training Co-ordinator communities thereby improving employee engagement by having clear processes to follow to enable them to access content efficiently to complete their job functions successfully.
  • Prepare and support the facilitation of Governance and Standards committees and meetings. Ensuring all documentation is in place and actions followed up.
  • Create, manage and publish reporting KPI’s and dashboards to measure the successful management of content on the GLMS system.
  • Support specific initiatives where appropriate i.e., monthly content clean-up efforts, Focus on quality over quantity; Regularly update or renew content; Review and recommend content to its members; Make it easy to find and access; Ensure content serves the needs.
  • Work in a collaborative and matrixed environment with other content managers across GSK. Be aware of current and emerging GSK Content Management strategies and anticipate their relevance to the overall learning agenda at GSK.
  • Liaise with SAP SuccessFactors and benchmark and being best practise learning into the team from SAP and other SAP customer. GSK approved content partners are integrated and managed effectively.
  • Provide learning taxonomy consultation where required to ensure key initiatives and projects are fully utilising technology where appropriate to ultimately improve learning effectiveness and/or improving global reach/accessibility.
  • Operate within the Learning Technology Team to deliver IPT objectives and contribute to the overall team success by demonstrating our values of Courage, Accountability, Teamwork and Development.

Knowledge Skills and Expertise

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with Content Management Systems, Digital Asset Management (DAM), Metadata Taxonomy principles and Information Specialist, is a plus.
  • Graduate Degree or higher is preferred or minimum of 2-3 years of applicable work experience.
  • Experience with content classification and metadata development highly desirable.
  • Experience in library science, information science, or linguistics helpful.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and be detail oriented, with a strong customer focus orientation.
  • Experience with reviewing, researching, and verifying that candidate tag submissions meet criteria for inclusion in the enterprise taxonomy used for classifying digital assets and optimizing products.
  • Insuring candidate tag submissions meet the criteria and standards for inclusion in the taxonomy of a large company.
  • Reviewing and researching candidate taxonomy tags for accuracy of definitions and placement in appropriate vocabularies.
  • Communicating findings and reasons for accepting or rejecting candidate tag submissions.
  • Troubleshooting and, if necessary, escalating issues through proper channels.
  • Successful candidates will have experience of testing large-scale product hierarchies from the user perspective, a successful track record of advocating for the user perspective within corporate environments, demonstrated proficiency in key user research methodologies to optimize categorication and labelling strategies (generative and evaluative).

  • Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a matrix and team-oriented environment required.
  • The ability to work successfully in a very fast paced environment with the need to manage constant change.
  • The ability to deal with ambiguity – ready to change gears and plans quickly.
