Welcome to EDF Energy and welcome to Generation Electric!
We're proud to be Europe’s largest generator of sustainable, low carbon energy; committed to rolling out Electric mobility as standard, self-sufficiency and ownership of energy consumption through smart, innovative products which help decarbonise homes & businesses. We believe that, together, we can create a cleaner, low-carbon future.
Introducing Generation Electric: They are leading a quiet revolution shaping the future of sustainable living and working through low carbon electricity. They are switching to low carbon energy sources, storing it in their homes and then selling it back to the grid and using electricity to power their movement. They are the pioneers of a better, more sustainable future for our planet.
And, at the forefront of the innovations supporting Generation Electric you’ll find all of us: the people of EDF Energy
Take your next step and join us. We believe that generating and supplying electricity isn’t just about power, it’s about the power to transform lives and futures.
At EDF Energy, we’re big on supporting people as they set out on their career. Over four years, you’ll learn from experts, gaining valuable experience while studying for a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. You can expect on-the-job training and the kind of practical experience you simply can't get on campus. On the scheme you'll follow the Level 6 Nuclear Scientist Nuclear Engineer Apprentice Standard.
The Training Programme:
Year one: You’ll be in full time residential study at the National College for Nuclear (staying there is optional dependent on your current residence), completing a foundation year in engineering including both academic and hands on learning within a realistic training environment. You’ll undertake foundation training courses and complete inductions and orientations at your EDF Energy base location.
Years two and three: Your time will be split between your studies and on the job learning at your EDF Energy location. You’ll complete three, four week blocks of residential study specialising in your chosen field and will then have the opportunity to develop and build on these in your workplace.
Year four: You’ll spend most of your time at your EDF Energy location, whilst continuing your studies through long distance learning. You’ll have developed your knowledge and skills from your studies and in the workplace and you will have captured the learning evidence as part of your training and development portfolio. The final stage of your apprenticeship will involve you completing a significant work based project which will be required as evidence of completion and qualification for the degree apprenticeship award.
As well as all the support you need, you’ll also enjoy plenty of opportunities to get involved in meaningful and challenging work once your studies are underway. That doesn’t mean you’ll have too much on your plate. You’ll have to put a lot of work in to manage your studies and your day-to-day duties but as you’ll be on block release from work when you’re studying, we can make sure we manage your workload accordingly.
Once you’ve completed the scheme, you’ll have both academic qualifications and years of experience within EDF Energy. That means you’ll be in the best possible position to continue your career. The future is yours for the taking!
During the apprenticeship you will be working within a team based at Heysham 2 Power Station. Your time will be split between your EDF Energy workplace and the National College for Nuclear (southern hub).
