A position exists, for a part-time (20-40%FTE) Senior Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the AGILE project.
The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
A consortium has been established between Cambridge University, London Business School, University College London and Strathclyde University, to create integrated software that intends to demonstrate the value of digital aggregators of distributed energy resources (DERs) in the energy market. The integrated software will show how a distributed ledger based settlement process makes multiple small transactions possible enabling a new market player, a digital aggregator to offer to the energy market, optimised and realistic portfolios of diverse distributed energy services, using real-time machine learning.
The Engineering Design Centre will be involved in researching and developing decision-making tools and methods synthesising multidimensional data visualisation with machine learning approaches and in particular Bayesian Networks. This decision-making system will be used for on-line and offline decisions being populated from the executed smart contracts in a Blockchain type environment.
It is essential that the role holder has a PhD in mechanical/electrical engineering and/or design, has excellent oral and written communication skills and is able to interact effectively with staff at all levels as well as several years' experience at senior postdoctoral level, including managing research projects with industry partners. A background in Java computer programming, Python and/or R for statistical computing and graphics, Parallel Coordinates or other method for multidimensional data visualisation and analysis is also desirable, as is some prior experience in Bayesian Networks inference, and proven experience of industrial customer relations and networking at the highest level.
Salary Ranges: £41,526 - £52,559 pro-rata
