Locum Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic consultant with excellent leadership skills to join our team. You will need to have a thorough understanding of sexual health and HIV services, membership of the Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Health (MFSRH) would be an advantage.
The Homerton Sexual Health Service (HSHS) is an integrated Sexual Health Service. It provides an open access comprehensive, integrated sexual health service from its four main sites; HSHS at Homerton Hospital, HSHS at St Leonard’s Hospital and at 80 Leadenhall in the City of London and John Scott Health Centre. The clinics at Homerton and St Leonards have a 5-day (Mon-Fri) working week with walk-in clinics throughout the day and evenings (Mon-Thurs). At these walk-in sessions all STI testing and treatment (including point-of-care HIV testing and post exposure prophylaxis) as well as contraception (including implants) are offered. There are booked appointments for complex cases and also for elective LARC fittings. Our new clinic at 80 Leadenhall opens on Saturdays.
Specialist services within the department include complex contraception, psychology, young people’s services, community gynaecology, laser surgery and genital dermatology. A significant number of patients present with acute STIs. Hackney has the third highest prevalence of HIV infection in London and the department has a rapidly expanding specialist HIV service which currently provides outpatient care for over 1200 patients and advice to clinicians treating HIV positive in-patients.
As a teaching hospital, Homerton enjoys excellent relationships with our partner academic institutions; Queen Mary College University of London, City University and University College London. The link between the hospital and the universities creates an environment where good clinical practice, teaching and research flourish.
The department has a significant training role in providing placements for doctors and letters of competency in LARC. We also have a Research Unit (Centre for Study of Sexual Health and HIV)

Applicants are required to be on the GMC specialist register or to be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT on the date of the advisory appointments committee
About The Role
This is a 0.7 WTE interim post in sexual health suitable for those who have recently acquired a CCST in genito-urinary medicine or are within 3 months of doing so.
Duties include responsibilities for sexual health and HIV outpatient clinics as well as community settings, providing leadership and advice to other clinicians and multidisciplinary team on sexual health and HIV matters within the Trust and Primary care.
The appointee will have lead responsibility for clinical governance across sexual health and HIV departments.
The appointee would be expected to deliver no more than 1 non-core session per week and 2 Saturdays per annum.
