Your new company
Working at one of London's well known local government organisations, you will be joining for an initial 3 month contract to support the Information Governance Manager in their role as Information Governance Officer across the council in all aspects of Information Governance.

Your new role
There will be a number of key duties and responsibilities you will take over, including but not limited to:

Supporting data controllers and data processors of their obligations, by

  • Advising on relevant policies and procedures;
  • Providing training for relevant staff;
  • Providing an advisory service to staff;
  • Ensuring that Information Asset Registers and Records of Processing Activities are maintained to the appropriate standard and signed off by the Information Asset Owner
  • Assisting with the production of data protection impact assessments (DPIA) for relevant projects or business changes;

Processing Data Subject Rights Requests, and supporting/advising on the responses to Freedom of Information Act queries, in accordance with the relevant legislation, policies and procedures.Co-operating with and acting as a contact point with the Information Commissioners Office; and the Local Government OmbudsmanMonitoring and reporting on compliance with policies of the Council in relation to the protection of personal data, Freedom of Information Act requests, and complaints.Assisting and advising as need to ensure the provision of a data protection officer service to the council's schools and to the Council's Education Partnership, and other bodies.

Act as a superuser of the Council's complaints and feedback system (Respond).

What you'll need to succeed
Must have strong prior experience working as a Data Protection Officer or Information Governance Officer. Ideally you will have worked in a complex environment within the public sector across local government though local government background is not essential.

  • Expertise in national and European data protection laws and practices, and thorough understanding of the GDPR.
  • Understanding of good relevant legislation, regulations, standards and good practice in the areas of information risk management, freedom of information, open government, complaints management and other related areas
  • 2 years experience in a compliance-related function and/or relevant qualification and equivalent experience at a managerial level
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across boundaries within a complex regulated environment
  • Good report-writing skills
