The Pathology Department is seeking an experienced, innovative and enthusiastic Clinical Biochemistry Section Lead Manager to manage the day to day running of the main laboratory section. The main laboratory Section Lead would be required to work closely with the other departmental Section Managers to help to lead and maintain high quality standards for the Clinical Biochemistry Services in the Trust.

This key appointment will help with the provision of a high quality Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory, and the successful post holder would play a fundamental role in helping to ensure provision of a best practice, well equipped laboratory that can continue to evolve and develop, in order to meet, the increasingly demanding and complex needs of the Trust patient population.

Applicants will need to be HCPC registered, qualified to MSc level, with extensive experience working as either a band 6 and/or band 7 level section Biomedical Scientist, and have highly developed specialist knowledge and skills for Clinical Biochemistry and in the use of automated testing chemistry platforms. Applicants will also need good training and quality management / quality assurance skills including experience of audit, with knowledge and experience of both UKAS ISO15189 inspection requirements.

The successful applicant will need to be a teamplayer who can effectively and efficiently lead the main laboratory section of a busy laboratory with good communication, organisational, time management and interpersonal skills. A very good understanding of complex laboratory analyser functionality and interface systems is also required, as well as an ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.

The laboratory is well equipped and fully automated using Abbott Architect ci8200 main analysers, Beckman Automate pre-analytics in addition to specialist instrumentation throughout including: Sebia Capillarys/ Hydrasys, Phadia 250, DS2, GC.MS, LCMSMS and HPLC systems. The Pathology department is fully computerised with Clinisys WinPath Enterprise system which is linked to the Trust’s electronic patient record using Cerner. The laboratory is a HCPC / IBMS accredited training laboratory and it has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation. The Pathology department and the Trust Learning and Development department provide very good opportunities for CPD, and personal development will be actively encouraged and supported.
