ScotBio is an exciting, young and growing biotechnology company, specialising in the production of high value biochemicals from microalgae and cyanobacteria. The company currently operates a production plant in Lockerbie, with a head office and R&D department situated at BioCity Scotland. We are in the process of scaling up to a commercial scale.
The company’s core product is a natural blue pigment, known as phycocyanin. It is derived from spirulina and is used as a natural blue food colourant, anti-oxidant, reagent or excipient. The spirulina is grown in bioreactors inside the production plant and requires regular harvesting and processing. ScotBio is recruiting an individual to provide hands-on support and assistance during the various stages of the production process. The role will be based at our production plant in Lockerbie. This is an entry-level position reporting to the Head of Production and is an excellent opportunity for a college graduate or a keen individual interested in direct, hands-on experience in the biotechnology industry. No prior experience in biosciences is necessary, though an interest in applied sciences, biotechnology or aquaculture may be advantageous.
The successful applicant will be professional, highly self-motivated with good time-keeping skills cable of adapting to a changing working environment as the production scales up. This is a full-time role offering 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday (may include weekends).
