Wood is recruiting a Principal Electrical Engineer with extensive experience within the greenfield and brownfield oil and gas and petrochemical industry. This is permanent staff role based in our offices in Reading.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical or power industry.
* Execute electrical engineering activities (Concept, Front End Engineering Development, Technical Study & Detailed Design) * Execute electrical discipline engineering activities within the budget and schedule, maintaining technical integrity and quality. Have a good understanding of the workflow and schedule logic between engineering disciplines. * Act as Discipline Focal Point / Lead Engineer as required, leading teams of engineers and designers. * Assess effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance * Carry out work in accordance with Wood. and project Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems * Maintain the required technical quality of work * Identify scope and schedule changes in accordance with the Change Control Process * Ensure that designs comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and Procedures * Keep up to date with technical developments, National and International standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline scope * Prepare estimates and schedules and assist in their review * Client and stakeholder management - maintain good communication with the client * Support the electrical group when required corporately in terms of proposal support, preparation of standards and technical work practices
Skills / Qualifications
* UK Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Electrical engineering subject * Chartered Engineer (desirable) * Highly experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise * Experienced in the use of appropriate codes of practice, standards and relevant sections of statutory documentation * Highly experienced in use of design and assessment methods used within discipline * Experienced in planning, progress monitoring, forecasting and reporting * Competent in commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering * Experienced in estimating man-hours and materials for most aspects of work * Experienced in working with other disciplines and sections to meet delivery dates * Highly experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work * Experienced in design safety / environmental requirements, procedures and responsibilities for both self and subordinates * Good knowledge of industry standard software applications, Word, Excel, MS Access, ETAP, Smart Plant Electrical
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge and previous experience of application / producing the following technical design aspects of electrical engineering within their experience to date;
* Electrical principals * International codes and standards * Earthing systems * Lightening protection * LV / HV distribution schemes * Power generation schemes * Protection and metering * Electrical calculations (equipment sizing, short circuit, cable sizing, touch and step voltages etc) * Electrical system studies (ETAP, SKM preferable) * Protection studies * Plant layout with respect to electrical input * Substation design * Electrical installation design * Specification and procurement of Electrical equipment * Area classification * Control schemes (motors, PMS, SCADA) * Site experience (preferred)
