About the role
As Director of Public Health, you will be required to lead the strategic development and implementation on a range of policies, strategies and services central to driving prevention, innovation and improving the health and wellbeing of the population of Swindon.
The Director of Public Health is a critical role, the system leader for improving the health and wellbeing of residents, reducing inequalities in health outcomes and protecting local communities from public health hazards (infectious diseases and environmental threats). As such, the Director of Public Health is a statutory chief officer of the authority and the principal adviser on all health matters to elected members, officers and partners, with a leadership role spanning health improvement, health protection and healthcare public health.
We are looking for someone who embodies our values, passion for prevention and reducing inequalities, commissioning and delivering high quality services with a focus on improvement.
You’ll need to have Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) or Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview).
You’ll have well-developed communication skills and the ability to set a clear strategic direction, inspire and motivate others and act as an advocate for public health within the council and with partners.
You’ll have exceptional leadership skills, both internally and externally, as a visible leader in the health and wellbeing partnership arrangements. Experience and knowledge of project and programme management are essential as is a commitment to addressing health inequalities in relation to long term conditions.
