Applications are invited for the position of a Research Technician to join the group of Dr David Kent (https://www.york.ac.uk/biology/research/infection-immunity/david-kent/) within the Department of Biology and the York Biomedical Research Institute. The Kent Lab studies the biology of adult blood stem cells and the process by which single blood stem cells are subverted to drive blood cancers such as leukaemia. Key areas of research include: 1) Understanding the molecular regulators of normal and malignant blood stem cells; 2) clonal evolution of cancers; and 3) physical and mechanical biology of stem cells (Lee-Six et al., Shepherd et al., Ortmann et al., and Wilson et al.).

The successful candidate must hold HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent in an appropriate science discipline and have research laboratory experience. They will be well-grounded in basic cell and molecular biology techniques and have excellent communication and organisational skills. Experience in flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and primary cell culture are desirable. A Home Office personal licence would also be an asset. Once appointed, the post holder will support the research team in a wide variety of molecular and cellular approaches. These include flow cytometry sample preparation and analysis, RT-PCR, cell line maintenance, primary cell culture, immunofluorescence, viral construct generation and tissue collection. The research technician will also be in charge of general lab management, including ordering and maintaining lab supplies and stocks, maintaining and updating protocols and reagent databases, and interacting with other laboratories.
