An opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic and collegial midwifery education team at the University of York, which is institutionally recognised as Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). We are proud of our highly regarded midwifery education provision, and our BA (Hons) Midwifery Practice is fully accredited with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) standards.

The ideal candidate will have substantive clinical experience and strong teaching skills in higher education/clinical practice. You will contribute to our growing midwifery education provision and the development of an innovative curriculum to fulfil the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Future Midwife standards.

You will join the vibrant, multidisciplinary Department of Health Sciences, whose core aim is to improve health and healthcare through the delivery of high quality teaching and the application of challenge-led research to policy and practice.

Role includes

  • Supporting and assessing students in academic and clinical environments and liaising with practice partners
  • Leading lectures, seminars and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching to create interest, understanding and enthusiasm
  • Contributing to review of curricula, teaching content/materials and strategy

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed include

  • Current registration as a midwife with the NMC
  • Postgraduate degree in midwifery or a related subject or evidenced equivalent experience
  • Appropriate academic teaching qualification or a willingness to complete
  • PhD in related subject or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience of successful planning and delivery of teaching and learning in Higher Education at undergraduate or postgraduate level or in an evidenced similar context
  • Experience and ability to apply and innovate in a range of teaching and learning activity, presenting specialist material in coherent and interesting ways which engage and enthuse
  • Ability to obtain and disseminate new knowledge and scholarly work
